Filming for Swedish version of The Crown begins

Filming has commenced for the Swedish version of The Crown.

According to Sweden’s Svenskdam, cameras have begun rolling on the show that will follow the life of King Carl XVI Gustaf. It is set to air by the end of the year.

TV4/Cmore is said to be responsible for the series.

The series is being filmed under the working title Monarki and is planned to have six episodes in season one. No one has ruled out multiple seasons for the programme.

Much is still unknown regarding the series. No information has been revealed on who will portray the King or members of his family. Variety magazine reported Åsa Lantz is involved in the writing of the script.

The Royal Court is not cooperating with the series, and Information Manager at the Royal Court, Margareta Thorgen, told TT: “We are not involved in the work in any way. On the other hand, the screenwriter Åsa Lantz wanted to ask some questions based on the documentary parts and based on that we have answered.”

The Royal Family is not a fan of its creation. Crown Princess Victoria has been vocal about the show and shared her hopes that she would not feature in it at all. When she was asked who she wanted to play her, Victoria said that she would prefer that no one portray her on screen.

“I would rather not be portrayed. Maybe I’ll be away for the whole season,” the Crown Princess said.

It remains to be seen how well received the show will be in Sweden.
