Queen Sofia of Spain has visited a hospital in Madrid celebrating a milestone anniversary.
Queen Sofia was at the San José Institute Foundation to help mark the hospital’s 125th anniversary.
The queen met many different patients to learn more about their physical rehabilitation plans at the hospital and the time that they have spent there. In addition to patients, she also learned more from staff about their work in several different areas including neurological and function rehabilitation, disability care and palliative care.
This is not Queen Sofia’s first visit to the San José Institute. She first went there in 1985 to present the 11th Ibero-American Epilepsy Award. She was also an honorary chair in both 2015 and 2016 for the Foro Espacio Esperanza.
The Institute was founded in 1899 by Diego Fernández Vallejo, Marquis of Vallejo, and a cleric, Saint Benedict Menni. As well as being a private hospital, the Institute includes a day centre for individuals with physical disabilities, a Special Education Needs school and an Early Care unit.
