Queen Letizia shows support for major medical organisation

Queen Letizia at AECC

Queen Letizia has paid a visit to a meeting of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC).

She was joined by members of the National Council for the AECC, both in person and via video conference. She delivered a greeting to the Association’s president, Ramón Reyes, and the other attendees. The focus of discussions on this particular occasion was to lay out and celebrate the achievements of the Association over the last fifty years.

The AECC was formed 66 years ago, and has since fulfilled several accomplishments in the fight against cancer in Spain, such as promoting research and raising funds to fight the disease through its Scientific Fund. Additionally, they have worked to ensure that Spanish citizens from all walks of life have access to treatment and research results. Their stated goal is to achieve cancer survival rates of 70% by the year 2030.

At this specific meeting, the Association discussed their plans for commemorative events to share these triumphs with Queen Letizia. Events planned for autumn 2021 include the celebration of World Cancer Research Day, a series of symphonic concerts in historic venues, and a traveling exhibition showcasing cancer advances that will tour the provinces of Spain.

The Queen has been a permanent Honorary President of the AECC since 2010, and regularly attends their functions to stay informed of their latest research and projects. The AECC was the first entity for which Queen Letizia accepted an honorary presidency on a permanent basis.
