Queen Letizia enquires about impact of integrative medicine at cancer conference

Queen Letizia of Spain took part in the “Cancer Tour” conference in Lleida, Catalonia, in her role as Permanent Honorary President of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer, AECC in Spanish).

Her Majesty, carrying out her first engagement after the summer break, arrived in the Catalonian city’s CaixaForum, where the Government Delegate welcomed her in Catalonia, the President of the Spanish Association Against Cancer, and the president of the local branch of the AECC.

After the traditional greeting line, Her Majesty took her seat in the first row of the auditorium and listened to the presentations by the general and the local presidents of the AECC before they introduced the guest speaker, Dr Carlos López Otín.

During the Q&A portion of the conference, Her Majesty was given the opportunity to ask a question, and she enquired about the potential for integrative medicine in treating cancer patients and the “effects that avoiding exogenous conditioners could have on cancer numbers.”

At the end of the conference, the Queen posed with all authorities present before leaving; she is expected in La Palma on Friday to open the school year in some structures there, so it is not clear whether she will make her way back to Madrid, or if she will fly directly to La Palma.

The “Cancer Tour” is an AECC initiative during which Dr Carlos López Otín talks about the need for “incrementing awareness and knowledge about the illness among the population, as well as explaining the services that the AECC offers to cancer patients and their families,” explains the Royal Household’s website.

Lleida was the opening city in a tour that in 2022 will take Dr López Otín in Palma de Mallorca on the 13th of September, in Cáceres on the 29th, in Guipúzcoa on the 4th October, in León on the 13th, in Valladolid on the 20th, in Zaragoza on the 25th. The last stop of this tour will be Madrid on the 27th of October, although it is not expected that Queen Letizia will attend, as she will probably be in Oviedo for the Princess of Asturias Awards ceremony.
