Crown Princess Mary opens new university campus in Kolding

Crown Princess Mary has opened a new campus for the University College South Denmark, viewing Kolding’s latest educational offering for Southern Denmark.

UC SYD posted on its official Facebook page: “A part of today’s program was composed by the students. Here, the Crown Princess got an insight into how the new building can accommodate the students of the future and elevate their learning through the latest technology and modern facilities.”

Crown Princess Mary then received a tour of the new facilities from students, seeing the six-floor building that will aid many disciplines achieve their academic potential. She also saw the world’s largest loudspeaker art installations at full blast. She learned how the new campus is “a mix of new innovation, bright teaching spaces and space for knowledge sharing and immersion,” according to its official website.

Before leaving, Crown Princess Mary posed for pictures with students on the steps outside the facilities.

“It is a great pleasure that the Crown Princess wants to take part in the inauguration of our campus because our four campuses are very important to us,” said UC SYD’s Rector, Alexander von Oettingen, in a statement when the royal’s visit was announced last week.

“As South and South Jutland’s largest educational institution, we have a great responsibility that, among other things, implies that we must be close to everyone in Southern Denmark so that education becomes an option.”

The Danish Royal House shared on Instagram: “Future educators, pedagogical assistants, graphic communicators and sound designers have been given a completely new framework in Kolding,” and added that “during her visit, the Crown Princess was introduced to the physical framework of different education—including a creative workshop, an audio studio, a cinema and a print shop. Along the way, young students told the Crown Princess about the many academic communities UC SYD’s new campus allows them to be a part of.”
