The young prince taking on an unexpected leading role

Sverre Magnus

Prince Sverre Magnus of Norway, the son and youngest child of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, appears to be taking on an ever increasing public role.

The nineteen year old joined his parents at their Asker estate, Skaugum, where they hosted a friendly football match. Crown Princess Mette-Marit coached Team Skaugum who were joined by Asker Unified, Furuset Regnbuen, and Strømsgodset TI.

Sverre Magnus laced up his boots and took to the pitch for Team Skaugum.

The Norwegian Royal Family has not made any public any announcement as to whether or not the Prince will have an official royal role, but in the last few months, he has begun to take on more public events.

On 17 May, the Prince joined his parents and sister on the balcony of the Royal Palace for Norwegian Constitution Day, a major event on the royal calendar.

Two weeks later, he undertook his first solo engagement, when on 27 May, he attended a government reception.

This event celebrated Norwegian athletes who participated in the Special Olympics World Games that were held in Turin. His Highness was able to meet with athletes and learn more about their experiences competing.
