Princess Ingrid Alexandra turned 21 on Tuesday and the Norwegian Royal Court shared a new portrait of their future queen on duty with the military.
The royal has been training with the Engineering Battalion in Troms, where she serves as Private Alexandra in Brigade North.
Princess Ingrid Alexandra is the eldest child of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, born on 21 January 2004. She will be Norway’s first modern queen regnant when she ascends to the throne, and is second in line behind her father.
The Royal Court shared several photos of the future queen, two of her in uniform and the rest casual family photos that show her on a boat and with her younger brother, Prince Sverre Magnus.
Princess Ingrid Alexandra joined the military last January for a 12-month period with the Engineer Battalion but announced that she would extend her service through the spring of 2025 last September.
The Royal Court shared that Private Alexandra has been working as a gunner on a CV90 STING vehicle and would continue through April 2025. The future queen said in an interview at the time: “I think the most important thing I have learned is that you can do much more than you think, and you are much stronger together. Whether it’s in a team or in a platoon or company, you get a lot more done when you’re not alone.”
The royal carried out a few public engagements last month alongside her family. She first joined her mother for a hospital visit on St Lucia Day then a luncheon for government officials; and later, a Christmas carol service with the Crown Prince Family.
The Norwegian Royal Court has not shared the Princess’s plans for once her military service ends in the spring; though post-secondary education would be the natural next step.
