In recent times, the King and Queen of Norway have begun their post summer holiday engagements with a visit to one of their nation’s counties. It provides an opportunity to see slightly more distant parts of Norway. On August 30th 2022, the royals started a three day long visit to western Norway and King Harald and Queen Sonja had a clear message during their visit – now is a time for optimism and to look to the future.
The Norwegian king’s message of optimism came during his visit to the municipality of Sykkylven. The King and Queen of Nroway had earlier in the day visited Fjord municipality, where the royals had, among other things, met the people of local population and tasted the famous strawberries, which are a major industry in the municipality.
In his speech to the people, King Harald said: “In these troubled times, we need the local courage, energy and optimism. With climate threats, war in Europe and great concern about rising costs, it can be easy to see the future a little darkly. We must stand together and try to give each other strength to face the challenges. Then we need inspiration not to give up.”
After the speech, the King and Queen went on to see local furniture production. The municipality produces quality furniture in a number of factories, which is exported all over the world. There was also time for cultural features in a large party to celebrate the King and Queen as well as a visit to the Griff Aviation Drone Factory.
King Harald also ”collects” municipalities, as he has a desire to be able to visit every e-municipality in Norway during his reign. Before this week began, the king needed to visit 28 municipalities out of Norway’s total of 356 municipalities. When this week is over, he can strike a further 3 from the list of unvisited municipalities.
