Crown Prince Haakon of Norway embraced the cold to launch an exciting year in Norway.
The Norwegian Crown Prince was in Oslo to help launch 2025 as the official Year of Outdoor Living. The bonfire event in the capital city was one of 700 across the country where communities lit their own bonfires to celebrate.
He looked to be having a great time at a folk party at Sognsvann at the official launch event.
Haakon was in a good mood, taking selfies with event attendees, trying different foods, and even taking part in different snowy activities.
The Norwegian Royal Family has enjoyed outdoor activities in the winter for generations. Queen Maud, the daughter of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, fully embraced her new country by spending much of her time skiing.
The Year of Outdoor Living is based on a Norwegian concept, Friluftsliv. It loosely translates as “open-air life” and is widely embraced in the country. Norway celebrates friluftsliv once a decade, with 2025 bringing a new celebration.
Last week, Queen Sonja (87) was hospitalised for a flare-up of an existing heart condition while she was on a skiing break. She has since been fitted for a pacemaker.
