Princess Charlene to return to Monaco “well before National Day”

Princess Charlene of Monaco will be home well before the country’s National Day next month, according to her husband Prince Albert, in a new interview with Point de Vue magazine.

Prince Albert elaborated on Princess Charlene’s most recent—and final surgery—that took place on 8 October, noting that it “concerned the nasal septum” and that it “went very well. We will be able to consider her return very soon. And I can tell you that she will be in Monaco long before the national holiday. It is not possible for me to give you the exact date, but I promise you will know when the time comes.”

Last month, Prince Albert gave another exclusive interview to People magazine in which he called the rumours that his wife fled Monaco “appalling.”

He said, “She didn’t leave Monaco in a huff! She didn’t leave because she was mad at me or at anybody else. She was going down to South Africa to reassess her foundation’s work down there and to take a little time off with her brother and some friends.”

He revealed that he hadn’t commented on any of the rumours because “I was concentrating on taking care of the kids, and I thought it would just probably go [away]. You know if you try to answer everything that comes out, then you’re constantly [responding], you’re wasting your time.”

Princess Charlene has been in South Africa since the spring when she was supposed to be on a short visit with her Princess Charlene Foundation’s South Africa branch. During her stay, she began to experience complications from a sinus lift/bone graft surgery she’d undergone in preparation for dental implants.

The royals spent their tenth wedding anniversary apart, though celebrations in Monaco were underway, and Princess Charlene was actively posting on her social media accounts.

Princess Charlene then revealed that an ear, nose and throat infection was keeping her from returning to Monaco, as any change in the air pressure could have been disastrous for her recovery. In early September, she was rushed to the hospital following complications and was placed under observation.

Her children, Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques, were able to visit her as well, after being separated from their mother since the spring.

Earlier this month, Princess Charlene underwent another operation, and the Prince’s Palace issued a rare statement stating: “The Princess underwent an operation on Friday which went very well. This operation under general anaesthesia is the last operation she had to undergo after the ENT infection she previously had.”

Monaco celebrates National Day on 19 November. Royal Central will bring you full coverage of Princess Charlene’s return to the country.
