Princess Charlene is now a manga character

Princess Charlene appears in the latest edition of a popular manga that already has ties to the Princely Family.

In a statement to Le Parisien, Princess Charlene, who is still being treated for an undisclosed illness, said, “I am delighted with the release of the sixth volume of Blitz, magnificently enhanced by Garry Kasparov and drawn by Daitaro Nishihara. The idea of participating in the Blitz adventure immediately attracted me, and I thank Cédric Biscay for inviting me to discover the manga world.”

Princess Charlene’s manga character makes a cameo appearance outside a Monte Carlo casino where she talks to two children at a chess tournament. She is sleekly dressed and wearing oversized sunglasses as she stops to speak to the children, saying hello and asking where they’re from. Her appearance accounts for four pages in total.

Biscay gave an interview stating the process for having Princess Charlene appear in the manga, saying it began a year ago. “Of course, I asked for her consent to appear in Blitz, and I went through the formal process. It was about a year ago. She immediately accepted. She later was able to see the comic and did not ask for any change.”

Biscay continued: “A big thank you to Princess Charlene for her presence in the manga.”

Prince Albert II, her husband, appears in the fourth volume of Blitz, with his character talking on the telephone and trying to arrange to have a tournament in Monaco, calling it the ideal environment.

Other royals who have made appearances in manga include Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth I, and Diana, Princess of Wales.

Princess Charlene has continued to receive treatment outside of Monaco for her undisclosed illness. However, Prince Albert gave an update earlier this month expressing his hope that she will be back in the principality very soon and that she is doing much better.
