Prince Albert looks to future celebrations during New Year’s Eve speech

Prince Albert II of Monaco has looked to the future in his 2022 New Year’s Eve speech in a year that saw the return of Princess Charlene to Monaco and royal duties.

He began his speech by offering support to all those “affected by war, oppression, violence, and intolerance in our troubled world.”

The Prince added that his and Charlene’s “thoughts are also with those afflicted by illness, or who have seen loved ones suffering, reminding us not just how fragile life is, but sometimes also, how resilient we can be when faced with adversity.”

He also looked to the future and said that in 2023 “we will continue to reach out our hands to mobilise our efforts and to devote all our energy to the cause of peace, mutual acceptance, and solidarity. For the sake of our children, we must imagine and fashion a reconciled, balanced world.”

Prince Albert stressed his commitment to preserving the planet and climate change. He said that everyone could work together to make change.

Monaco is set for elections next year, and the Sovereign Prince expressed his belief in their importance and people voting. He added that he knows those elected will do their part to preserve democracy and lead Monaco.

The principality will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Prince Rainier’s birth. The father of Prince Albert was born on 31 May 1923. Albert said of his father, “He made Monaco a modern and dynamic constitutional monarchy, outward-looking and active on the international stage.”

The Prince of Monaco mentioned that 2023 will also mark 30 years since Monaco joined the United Nations and said: ” I want to reaffirm my strong belief in multilateralism and respect for our international commitments.”

His Serene Highness concluded by remarking: ” ‘Tomorrow’ is not a vain word, but the future prospect of our common desire.”

The video ended with an appearance by Princess Charlene and the couple’s eight-year-old twins, Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques, who wished everyone a Happy New Year in French, English and Monegasque.
