King Felipe flies into Qatar for Spain’s first World Cup match

King Felipe flew to Doha, Qatar, to attend the Spanish team’s first match of the FIFA World Cup.

His Majesty landed in the Emirate accompanied by the President of the Superior Council for Sports, and the two were welcomed by authorities, including the Qatari Minister for Youth and Sports and the Spanish Ambassador to Qatar.

The King was then accompanied to Al Thumama Stadium, where, after a brief meeting with football authorities, he watched the match.

For their first game of the tournament, Spain took on Costa Rica, who also had an exceptional supporter in the Costa Rican Vice President Mary Munive. Spain won the match with a huge margin, as the final score ended up being 7-0, much to the delight of King Felipe.

After the match, His Majesty went inside changing rooms to congratulate the players on what was an undoubtedly excellent match. The King of Spain also congratulated the technical staff for the result.

Before the match, King Felipe also met with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who made headlines globally a few days ago by showing his support for the Qatari government imposing bans and restrictions on players and fans that match local law.

King Felipe has long been a fan of football and it was no surprise that he chose to attend the match. He has also met the Emir of Qatar during his time in the country.
