REVEALED: Host cities for Denmark’s Royal Run 2023

Crown Prince Frederik, Prince Vincent, Princess Josephine support the Royal Run

Crown Prince Frederik announced next year’s host cities for the Royal Run in a sporty video shared on the Danish Royal Court’s social media this week.

Next year’s Royal Run, which takes place on 29 May, will take place in the towns of Herning, Aabenraa, Nyborg, Nykøbing Falster and Copenhagen/Frederiksberg.

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary are confirmed to participate—they typically run in various towns throughout Denmark—while their children, Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, are likely to as well. Last year’s Royal Run saw 91,763 participants running either one kilometre, five kilometres, or ten kilometres.

In a statement on the Royal Run website, Jens Otto Størup, one of its steering group members, said: “It is very exciting to be able to expand the Royal Run family with four completely new cities. Royal Run is an exercise race where everyone can take part, and with Herning, Aabenraa, Nyborg and Nykøbing Falster as new host cities, we hope that we can give even more people the desire to experience what it means to move together and do it to a huge folk festival.”

Speaking after last year’s race, Crown Prince Frederik praised his youngest son, Prince Vincent, and spoke of how physical activity is beneficial to the wider population: “It gives some confidence and a basic understanding that one can move and accomplish more than one might just think. On the whole, it’s great that so many are throwing themselves into this. And if you did not manage to sign up for this year, you have to press the keys and sign up for next year.”

The Royal Run was formed in 2018 to mark Crown Prince Frederik’s 50th birthday celebrations and has been run nearly annually ever since, with a pause during the coronavirus pandemic.
