He’s spent the last week standing in for his monarch as she recovered from extensive surgery but the weekend brought a spot in the sun with his beloved for Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark.
The Crown Prince, who was regent of Denmark for several days as his mother, Queen Margrethe II, underwent an operation on her back, headed to the ultimate symbol of love, the Taj Mahal, with his wife, Crown Princess Mary, as the couple arrived in India for an official visit.
Frederik and Mary will spend four days in India with visits to New Delhi and Chennai as well as Agra. The main focus of the official visit is business links between Denmark and India and almost 40 companies are involved in the trip.
As well as business, there will be a focus on the environment and sustainability.
The Crown Prince and Princess will also meet India’s President, Droupadi Murmu, as well as Vice President, Jagdeep Dhankar.
The trip began on February 26th 2023 with the couple’s first visit to the Taj Mahal. It was commissioned in 1631 by the Mughul Emperor, Shah Jahan, to house the mausoleum of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is now regarded as one of the world’s most famous monuments to love.
Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, who celebrate their 19th wedding anniversary this spring, sat on a bench in front of the Taj Mahal to pose for photos. At one point, the Crown Princess lent into her husband for a hug as they enjoyed the sights.
The couple also visited Agra Fort as their first day in India continued.
They were then due to travel on to New Delhi.
Queen Margrethe continues to recuperate from her surgery. While Crown Prince Frederik is on his official visit to India, his aunt, Princess Benedikte, is acting as regent.
