It’s a fictional tale that includes a version of a very famous consort and now Bridgerton has encouraged another queen to admit to a secret of her own.
Queen Camilla revealed she watched series one of the Netflix hit as she toured a garden inspired by the programme.
A queen who stood in for a poorly king
Queen Charlotte plays a part in the fictionalised telling of the ton but it’s the onscreen story of another character that has influenced the creation of the garden which is on display at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Series three of the show puts a spotlight on Penelope Featherington and the garden depicts her transformation from quiet and shy, depicted by ferns and ivy, to confident, shown in the use of bright flowers.

The Queen saw the garden on a visit to RHS Chelsea just hours before the famous show opened its doors to the public. She visited alongside King Charles as well as other members of the Royal Family including the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.
Her Majesty visited many of the installations including one of the most celebrated, the ‘No Adults Allowed’ garden which is designed by children, for children, and which aims to encourage them to learn and explore the world around them.

Also on show are two models of Queen Camilla’s rescue dogs, Beth and Bluebell, and their owner posed happily beside the replicas as she visited RHS Chelsea.

The King, meanwhile, was happy to be given a brand new title by several of the children showing him around the gardens. They offered him a badge saying ‘King of the Compost’, a tribute to his love of horticulture.
The RHS Chelsea Flower Show runs from May 21st until May 25th 2024.
