Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark have concluded their trip to the United States. They first travelled to Washington D.C. before moving on to Boston, Massachusetts.
It was a packed four-day trip for Their Royal Highnesses as they led a Danish business delegation to the States. The purpose of the visit was to focus on the food, clean tech, healthcare solutions and the maritime industries. On their first evening, they attended a reception hosted by Danish Ambassador to the United States, Lars Gert Lose.

A highlight of the trip was on the morning of 28 September when Crown Prince Frederik participated in a run with Danish and American veterans at the National Mall for the Wounded Warrior Run. They completed the 3.8 miles after speaking with the veterans in front of the Lincoln Memorial.

The couple also visited the American Chamber of Commerce for an event for the Danish delegation before the Crown Princess spoke at the United States Department of Health and Human Services’ Health seminar, which was organised in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Health. Later that evening, the Crown Prince Couple attended a Grand Ball at the Smithsonian Arts and Industries Building with members of the delegation, US politicians and representatives of the Danish Embassy.
The next day they attended a few more events in the American capital, including a visit by Mary to Children’s National Medical Center where she read the children “The Emperor’s New Clothes” by Hans Christian Andersen. After arriving in Boston, they visited Guldmann Inc. and opened a new showroom, and Frederick participated in a sustainability event “Cities as Drivers for Sustainability” at the University of Boston.

That evening they met with Boston Mayor, Marty Walsh before a networking dinner with the Danish business delegation and partners in Boston and the rest of Massachusetts. Danish Ambassador, Lars Gert Lose said on Twitter, “Great evening, concluding our first day in Boston – speeches & atmosphere was a true testament to DK-US relations.”
They wrapped up their tour today beginning at a DONG Energy Breakfast Event, giving the keynote speech, participation in a seminar on renewable energy for Frederik. Crown Prince Frederik also presented a scholarship donation of $250,000 from the Crown Prince Frederik Fund at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. Four Danish students were presented with the award. Frederik studied political science at the school from 1992-1993. Mary officially opened the Danish LEO Pharma’s new research and development office, LEO Science & Tech Hub, and the Cambridge Innovation Center.

The Crown Prince and Princess also met with Massachusetts Governor, Charlie D. Baker at the Massachusetts State House and attended a luncheon hosted by Governor Baker. They had a red carpet arrival before greeting the dignitaries on the steps. The Danish and American anthems were played, with a slight technical difficulty during the Star Spangled Banner stopped in the middle of the anthem. All those in attendance were good sports and gave a chuckle at the interruption.

Before returning to Denmark, Crown Prince Frederik visited IBM Watson Health and toured the high-tech headquarters, while Crown Princess Mary was at Boston Children’s Hospital with Radiometer – the Danish manufacturer of health care technology.
