Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan begins UK military course

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II of Jordan is to begin a military course in the United Kingdom, the Royal Hashemite Court has announced today.

The 24-year-old future King of Jordan, who holds the rank of second lieutenant in the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, has enroled in a military course with a battalion at an unspecified location in the UK. The course will last until the end of this year.

This is not the first military education Crown Prince Hussein, a Georgetown University graduate, will receive in the UK. He graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 2017 alongside Prince Sébastien of Luxembourg and Prince Wenzel of Liechtenstein after a 44-week course.

At graduation, Crown Prince Hussein’s father, King Abdullah II of Jordan, represented Her Majesty The Queen at the Sandhurst Sovereign’s Parade as the Reviewing Officer. The King had the honour of addressing the cadets after the parade reminiscing on his time as a cadet at the Sandhurst a few decades before and the challenges they face in the future. He concluded by emphasising that the cadets must always “do what’s right.”

Crown Prince Hussein’s mother, Queen Rania, three siblings, Princesses Iman and Salma and Prince Hashem, and grandmother, Princess Muna, were also in attendance.

Aside from Hussein’s father, other members of the Jordanian Royal Family have attended Sandhurst; they include his grandfather, King Hussein; aunts, Princesses Iman and Aisha; and uncles, Princes Ali, Hamzah, and Hashim.

Crown Prince Hussein is the eldest child of King Abdullah II and Queen Rania of Jordan. He was born on 28 June 1994 in Amman. He has two younger sisters, Princess Iman (b. 1996), Princess Salma (b. 2000), and Prince Hashem (b. 2005).
