The Queen’s health and Prince Andrew’s legal battle take centre stage on the Royal Beat

The latest episode of True Royalty’s the Royal Beat is now live with The Queen’s health and Prince Andrew’s legal battle taking centre stage.

The Queen has been advised to rest and not undertake engagements outside the palace for a couple of weeks, and the royal experts on the programme discuss Her Majesty’s health situation. Richard Kay, Daily Mail Editor at Large, spoke about her health and how her hospital stay was hidden before a leak revealed it to the world.

“The public does have a right to know about the well-being of our monarch. It has huge ramifications for the entire country, whether she’s ill or well, and we should know. I think what was missing from the palace on this occasion was the element of trust. There should have been some measure of trust in the reporters who cover the Royal Family, so they could convey to their editors what was going on. If they’d asked for some restraint, we would have shown restraint,” he said.

Camilla Tominey, Daily Telegraph Associate Editor, added that she’s not too concerned about The Queen’s health: “She’s ninety-five. I think she’s just perhaps got some mobility issues. We saw this with the introduction of the walking stick. Frankly, it’s a miracle that’s only just been introduced.”

Of course, Prince Andrew’s legal battle in the United States with Virginia Giuffre regarding sexual assault allegations (that the Duke of York has consistently denied) was a main topic of the show. The royal experts were not so kind toward his legal team, saying they’ve continued to be proved wrong.

Kay said: “That’s always been the hope, [amongst Prince Andrew’s team] that they might get this case thrown out. They’ve always argued it has no merit and it is a vexatious case, and nothing more than that. But on every step so far, they’ve been either wrong-footed or proved wrong.”

Tominey says Buckingham Palace appears to have washed their hands of the situation: “Buckingham Palace … seem to have washed their hands of this whole saga. They don’t really comment on it anymore. Which is why he’s devolved it to his own personal team. He’s got independent PRs dealing with it now, who he’s paying – or The Queen’s paying – and a legal team who he’s paying, or The Queen’s paying.”

Kay and Tominey were supported by Russell Myers, Royal Editor of the Daily Mirror, in their arguments. He stated that one problem for Prince Andrew is that he was silent for so long and is now on the attack.

“The problem he has is of [previously] being non-committal in his defence by having this wall of silence, and now going on the attack. Will a judge or jury take too kindly to that? I don’t think so, and I think that they’ll wonder how on earth he knows, or is professing to know, these details about Virginia Giuffre after saying that he had no recollection of meeting her [and] has never had any association with her,” he said.
