No progress made in financial dispute concerning Princess Mako’s fiancé

The financial dispute between Kei Komuro, Princess Mako of Akishino’s fiancé, and his mother’s former fiancé has seen no progress.

The dispute concerns money that was also used for Kei Komuro’s tuition, and it is unclear if the money was meant to be a gift or a loan. The former fiancé of Kei Komuro’s mother Kayo has now released a statement saying that no progress has been made in talks to resolve the financial dispute. However, Komuro has published a document explaining the history of the financial conflict and offered to pay back the money.

“I am asking Kei to tell me what he’s thinking, but he has not told me that yet.” The former fiance said, “I want to know what Kei, who released the document in April, has in mind when making his proposal.”

The financial dispute postponed Kei and Mako’s wedding and led to a media frenzy that ended up with Mako being diagnosed with complex post-traumatic stress disorder. The former fiance said, “I feel a strong responsibility and am truly sorry from the bottom of my heart.”

Kenji Ikeda, an official of the Imperial Household Agency, said at a recent news conference that regarding the former fiancé’s statement, there was “nothing to comment” on.

The wedding of Kei Komuro and Princess Mako is now set to take place on 26 October 2021.
