Foreign royals show support for their British friends and family at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral

Royals from across the world were in Westminster Abbey to support their British family and friends as they said goodbye to Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen Elizabeth II was beloved and admired by many foreign royals for her dedication to duty and her country. As such, they made sure some of the highest representatives from their families were in attendance to honour Her Late Majesty.

Those in attendance included reigning monarchs and their spouses or heirs from Europe: King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of the Belgians, Queen Margrethe and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg, Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands, King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway, King Felipe and Queen Letizia and King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía of Spain, and King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden.

Liechtenstein sent their acting head of state and heir to the throne and his wife, Hereditary Prince Alois and Hereditary Princess Sophie.

Outside Europe, royals from Africa, Asia and the Middle East flew into London. They included King Jigme Khesar and Queen Jetsun Pema of Bhutan, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan, King Letsie III of Lesotho, King Abdullah II and Queen Rania of Jordan, Sultan Abdullah of Pahang and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah (King and Queen of Malaysia), and King Tupou VI of Tonga.

Prince Moulay Rachid of Morocco, Sheikh Mohammed of Dubai, Sultan Haitham of Oman, Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of and Sheikha Jawaher Qatar, Crown Prince Mishal of Kuwait, and Prince Turki al-Faisal of Saudi Arabia also attended.

Representatives from former monarchies included Queen Anne-Marie, Crown Prince Pavlos and Crown Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece, Tsar Simeon II of Bulgaria, the Custodian of the Romanian Crown, Her Majesty Margareta and Prince Radu, and Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine of Serbia. Alexander was one of the late Queen’s godchildren.
