A moving tribute to Queen Elizabeth II at the Cenotaph

The Royal British Legion paid a special tribute to Queen Elizabeth II during her funeral as it lowered dozens of flags for Her Late Majesty as her coffin passed the Cenotaph.

Ex-Service Association standard bearers dipped their flags as the funeral procession approached and bowed their heads as the coffin came into view.

The standards remained dipped as the coffin passed.

Marching behind were King Charles III, the Princess Royal, the Duke of York and the Earl of Wessex along with the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Sussex and Peter Phillips. Members of the royal party in military uniform saluted as they passed the Cenotaph while those in morning suit bowed their heads respectfully.

The Queen stood before the Cenotaph to lead the nation in remembrance on Armistice Day for many years. For Her Late Majesty, remembering those who had given their life for their country was hugely important.

Earlier in the week, a wreath for Queen Elizabeth II was left at the nearby Monument for the Women of World War Two, in recognition of her own wartime service.

The State Funeral of Her Late Majesty took place at Westminster Abbey on September 19th 2022 followed by a funeral procession through London to Wellington Arch. From there, her coffin was placed in a hearse to be driven to Windsor where she will be laid to rest.
