Is Meghan returning to acting? A fresh reason for the shock move back to the Sussexes is now on the table

Meghan Duchess of Sussex

As the dust settles around the bombshell revelation that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are returning to the United Kingdom after six years—children in tow and enrolled in school—new reporting is shedding light on what may be in their future, and it sounds like Meghan is getting ready to resume her acting career.

Reporting on both sides of the Atlantic alleged that Meghan has been offered a part in an upcoming Netflix project that films in the UK, which fast-tracked the family’s move.

The Australian website News.au.com was first to break the news, reporting that Meghan had been offered a role in an unnamed production, with The Hollywood Reporter alleging that Meghan will join the third season of The Gentlemen, an action/comedy series from British director Guy Ritchie.

The second season is set to premiere in early September, and a third season has not yet been ordered. The Hollywood Reporter could not confirm how large a role Meghan would receive, nor how many episodes she will allegedly appear in. Neither Meghan’s representatives nor Netflix responded to The Hollywood Reporter for comment.

Bronte Coy, the Australian reporter who first broke the news, appeared on BBC Radio 4 and said that Meghan is “very excited about it” and that it’s a significant role.

It would mark Meghan’s return to acting after nearly 10 years. After years of bit roles on television shows and films, Meghan’s biggest acting credit to date was Suits, where she played the paralegal Rachel Zane from 2011 to 2018.

She left the show when she married Prince Harry, calling the end of her acting career “a change” and not “giving anything up” in her engagement interview the year before.

Since the end of Suits, Meghan has only appeared in non-fiction programming, like With Love, Meghan, her lifestyle series for Netflix; Harry and Meghan, the bombshell docuseries; Live to Lead, Polo and Heart of Invictus; and narrating the Disney Nature film Elephants.

Her only major film appearance came when she filmed scenes for the upcoming Amazon MGM comedy Close Personal Friend last year.

On Wednesday, The Telegraph broke the news that Harry and Meghan, and Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, will move back to the UK. Whether it’s a permanent move or only temporary remains known only to the couple, but the announcement, six years after they quit royal duties and decamped for California, caused shockwaves through the press.

King Charles was notified on Sunday. Both King and heir are currently at Balmoral Castle, the Royal Family’s Scottish bolthole, for their annual summer holiday. While there, King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William and Catherine are understood to be meeting to discuss the Sussexes’ move back.

Reports out of Buckingham Palace stressed that Harry and Meghan will remain private, non-working members of the Royal Family and will not undertake a ‘half-in, half-out’ programme as they’d initially wished in 2020.

Archie and Lilibet are already enrolled in school—the name and location will remain private—and Harry and Meghan are said to have already found a private residence outside of London, with popular betting on a location in the Cotswolds.

The couple will keep their homes in Montecito and Portugal, and will move to the UK by the end of this month to ensure they’re ready for their children to begin school when the new term begins.

The Sussexes will be expected to source their own security, as Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said that security will be ‘a matter for Harry and Meghan.’
