As the year comes to a close, let’s take a look back at some of the biggest moments for the Swedish Royal Family in 2025!

CROWN PRINCESS VICTORIA’S MILITARY TRAINING CONTINUES

While she began military training in the fall of 2024, Sweden’s future queen continued on throughout 2025. In January, the Swedish Royal Court announced that she had begun basic military strategy training; in the spring, she wore a military uniform to a major royal event for the first time; and over the fall, she was training with the Swedish Air Force and flew over northern Sweden.

While Crown Princess Victoria carried out her official duties—including visits to South Korea, Japan, Nigeria, and Monaco—it was perhaps this military training that’s been the key to her year. In preparing for her future role, she’s taking her training to the next level.

A NEW PRINCESS IS BORN

After 10 years of marriage and three sons—Prince Alexander, Prince Gabriel and Prince Julian—this year, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia welcomed their daughter, Princess Ines.

Ines Marie Lilian Silvia was born on 7 February. Her grandfather created her the Duchess of Västerbotten when her birth was announced. She was, appropriately, christened on her parents’ 10th anniversary with her family surrounding her.

Crown Princess Victoria has earned the sobriquet ‘Godmother of Europe’ for her many godchildren.

The royal godchildren include Crown Prince Christian, Princess Catharina-Amalia, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, Prince Alexander (her nephew via Prince Carl Philip), Princess Leonore (her niece via Princess Madeleine), Princess Eléonore of Belgium, Prince Constantine Alexios of Greece and Denmark, and Princess Katharina of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.

This year, Princess Estelle began following in her mother’s footsteps and was named godmother to her newborn cousin Princess Ines. The doting tween—and future queen—was a prominent part of the christening ceremony, and later in the year, when Queen Silvia accepted the Christmas trees to the Royal Palace, she was on babysitting duty when Princess Ines joined in.

PRINCESS MADELEINE LAUNCHES A PRIVATE VENTURE

When Princess Madeleine and Christopher O’Neill returned to Sweden with their children, they began undertaking royal engagements at major state occasions. Princess Madeleine also continues to work with her mother’s World Childhood Foundation, and several of her own patronages, and this year she added a private business venture to the schedule.

She announced MinLen, a natural skincare line, with Weleda in the spring and it caused enough brouhaha that the Swedish Royal Court had to issue a statement clarifying that Princess Madeleine receives no money from the government for her official work and only carries out duties at her father’s request. To separate it further, they announced that, “As this is a private business venture, independent of her role within the Royal House, Princess Madeleine will use the name Madeleine Bernadotte in business contexts.”
