Crown Princess Victoria has begun the next phase of her officer training.
The Swedish Royal Court shared new photos of the future queen of Sweden with fellow officers at the Swedish National Defence University and revealed that she has now begun, as of 13 January, the course in basic military strategy.
While Crown Princess Victoria has previous military training, spending 2003 at the Swedish Armed Forces International Centre, over the past year she has been undertaking significant training to prepare herself for her role as queen.
As she joined the Defence University for special officer training last August, Crown Princess Victoria said: “With great anticipation, I continue my military education at the Swedish National Defense University today. Together with other cadets, I will continue to study tactics, war science and military strategy, among other things.
“My ambition is now to put all my energy into officer training so that in the future I can represent Sweden and the Armed Forces in the best possible way.”
Last spring she joined the Stockholm Amphibious Regiment for practical training and from the fall began studying at the Defence University.
In an interview in November, Crown Princess Victoria said “For me it feels important to keep up with and understand the complexity and scope of the change,” with the Swedish Armed Forces and said that Sweden joining NATO was a major impetus for her to begin training.
“The prevailing situation in the world is a part, but also our membership in NATO, which has caused the armed forces to undergo major changes,” she said.
Special officer training in Sweden is for those who already have university degrees and don’t have military backgrounds. Training typically lasts between 20-25 months and focuses on four areas: military science, leadership, office training and position training.
