The King has this week continued his programme of diplomatic engagements, hosting two audiences with international leaders at Windsor Castle.

On Wednesday, His Majesty received His Excellency Mr Santiago Peña, President of the Republic of Paraguay, during a formal audience at his Berkshire residence. The visit marked a moment of continued goodwill and cooperation between the United Kingdom and Paraguay, with both nations reaffirming shared interests in sustainable development, education, and trade.

The following day, Thursday, The King welcomed President Dr Mohamed Muizzu of the Republic of Maldives. Their meeting reflected the UK’s longstanding ties with the Indian Ocean nation and comes amid renewed discussions on climate resilience and environmental protection – issues of mutual concern given the Maldives’ vulnerability to rising sea levels.

These high-level audiences underline The King’s role as Head of State in supporting and strengthening Britain’s diplomatic relations across the globe.

The meetings with the Presidents of Paraguay and the Maldives follow a series of recent audiences undertaken by The King. Last week, he formally received Miss Sarah Clarke as she relinquished her appointment as Lady Usher of the Black Rod and welcomed her successor, Lieutenant General Edward Davis, who took the Oath upon becoming Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod.

Earlier this month, The King also received James Marape MP, Prime Minister of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, during a private audience at Highgrove House.

As Head of the Commonwealth and sovereign of 15 independent countries, The King’s audiences with world leaders serve to deepen the UK’s international partnerships and foster global dialogue on shared priorities.
