As the Paris Olympics got under way, three of the best known royals in Europe enjoyed a catch up and there was wine. Natch.
Kings, queens and princesses gathered in the French capital for the opening ceremony of the Summer Games of 2024 and some of them gave us a peek behind the scenes of this very regal gathering.
Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg took to Instagram the morning after the night before to share just how the evening went down in the royal box.
She revealed a very regal gossip session as she was seen enjoying a chat with Queen Letizia of Spain and Queen Mathilde of the Belgians ahead of the opening ceremony.
The photo was clearly taken before the celebrations began as none of them was yet drenched. The skies opened as the ceremony began and all three ended up wrapped up in plastic ponchos to protect them from the rain.
Their gathering showed just how well members of different royal families get on. But far more interesting for the truly nosy was what was on the table in front of them.
A rather fetching black, quilted handbag and what appears to be two phones are in front of Queen Letizia – a former journalist is always going to want to document such a big event.
Grand Duchess Maria Teresa has a fan at her elbow, perhaps the triumph of hope over experience as the weather in Paris was anything but balmy as the Games began.
Most intriguing of all are the drinks. A half finished glass of white wine and a coffee have been pushed to the front of the table, away from all three women. Maybe the starting bell had just been rung for the ceremony and they’d all downed their drinks to get ready to take their seats.
Seems like royals are just like the rest of us – a big Friday night out and wine o’clock.
