The Queen will travel to Carbis Bay in Cornwall to participate in engagements related to the G7 Summit on June 11th 2021. The UK is hosting the current meeting.
The G7, or Group of Seven Summit, is an annual forum of seven wealthy countries (the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, and Italy).
The Queen will be joined by The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the official G7 leaders welcome reception. Earlier in the day, The Duchess of Cambridge will attend a roundtable with the First Lady of the United States, Dr Jill Biden. The roundtable will discuss themes related to early childhood education, a cause important to both women.
After the leader’s reception, Prince Charles, with Prince William in attendance, will host an additional reception for the G7 leaders focused on sustainability. Prince Charles has invited the CEO’s of some of the world’s largest companies to the event (including the CEO’s of Bank of America, AstraZeneca, and HSBC), which will discuss ways in which the public and private sectors can work together to address climate change and related environmental issues.
At the same time, The Queen, The Duchess of Cornwall, and The Duchess of Cambridge will attend a Big Lunch event. The Big Lunch initiative, launched in 2009 at The Eden Project, aims to strengthen community ties by hosting a large annual event that features a wide range of activities meant to connect people. The royals will meet local volunteers and thank them for their work this past year during the pandemic. The Big Lunch initiative will be a major part of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebration next year.
The G7 events will kick off a very busy weekend for The Queen. On Saturday, Trooping the Colour will take place at Windsor Castle. The annual military parade will be scaled down this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. On Sunday, The Queen will host U.S. President Biden and the First Lady at Windsor Castle. President Biden will inspect an honour guard before meeting The Queen for tea. Biden will be the 13th U.S. President Her Majesty will meet.
