Harry and Meghan plan to use Frogmore Cottage as official UK residence

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex say they intend to keep Frogmore Cottage at Windsor as a base in England as their new life begins. The couple confirmed that the home, given to them as a grace and favour residence by the Queen in 2019, is set to be their official residence when spending time in the UK.

On the ‘Funding’ section of their new website, the Sussexes explain that they plan to keep the cottage as a home. They state that ”Frogmore Cottage will continue to be the property of Her Majesty The Queen”. The couple then add that ”The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will continue to use Frogmore Cottage – with the permission of Her Majesty The Queen – as their official residence as they continue to support the Monarchy…”. The official website also states that they want to continue to use Frogmore Cottage so that ”their family will always have a place to call home in the United Kingdom”.

Frogmore Cottage stands in the grounds of Windsor Castle and is close to Frogmore House where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex held their evening reception following their wedding at St. George’s Chapel on May 19th 2018.

The couple announced that they are stepping back as senior royals in a statement on their official Instagram account on January 8th 2020. They said they want to move towards financial independence and to split their time between the UK and North America. Details of where they plan to live there haven’t been discussed.

Soon after their announcement, Buckingham Palace said that the couple’s decision involved ”complicated issues that will take time to work through”.
