The Queen has reacted to the terror attack on London Bridge by expressing her sympathies to the victims, as well as praising those who put their lives at risk to save others.
Her Majesty said: “Prince Philip and I have been saddened to hear of the terror attacks at London Bridge. We send our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies to all those who have lost love ones.
“I express my enduring thanks to the police and emergency services, as well as the brave individuals who put their own lives at risk to selflessly help and protect others.”
A man and a woman were killed during the attack on Friday afternoon when a man armed with two knives stabbed people in the vicinity of London Bridge.
Three other people were also injured and remain in hospital.
The terrorist, a 28-year-old former prisoner, was shot dead by police at the scene after being restrained by members of the public who have since been branded as heroes.
One man, a polish national who worked as a chef at Fishmongers’ Hall, grabbed a narwhal tusk from a wall display and started apprehending the attacker with the 5ft ornament.
Another man was filmed chasing the attacker down the road with a fire extinguisher, before he was jumped upon by other members of the public who restrained him until police arrived.
The Metropolitan Police has urged anyone with information, especially those who were at Fishmongers’ Hall, to contact them.
