A list of confirmed royals attending King Michael of Romania’s funeral

His Late Majesty King Michael of Romania died on 5 December at his home in Switzerland after years of ill health. He was 96. His body is due to arrive in Romania on 13 December where it will lie in state. The funeral will take place on 16 December at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest. He will be buried later that day at Curtea de Arges beside his wife, Queen Anne who died last year.

The Prince of Wales is due to represent the British Royal Family at the funeral, it was confirmed on 10 December by Clarence House.

The Serbian Royal Court confirmed to Royal Central on 12 December that Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine would go to Romania on behalf of the Serbian Royal Family.

The Royal Court of Norway also confirmed to Royal Central that they would not be sending a member of the Royal Family to the funeral.

A representative of Romania’s Orthodox Church also said that a member of the Spanish Royal Family would also be in attendance; it was confirmed by Casa Real that it would be King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía.

Queen Anne-Marie from the Greek Royal Family will also be in attendance. On the day of King Michael’s death, her son, Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece tweeted, “King Michael of Romania has died at 96. An uncle of mine, he was a peaceful and kind man who helped save thousands in His country prior to [the] end of WWII. May he Rest In Peace.”

The complete guest list was released on Thursday, 14 December of all those who would attend the Saturday funeral. Numerous royals from both reigning and non-reigning monarchies are on the list.

The list includes representatives from former monarchies in Austria, France, Germany, Portugal and Russia.

Of the current reigning royal houses in Europe, Denmark, Monaco, The Netherlands, Norway and Liechtenstein are not sending royal representatives.

Many royals have sent condolences to the Romanian Royal Family after the late King’s passing; those include the Crown Prince Couple of Serbia and the King and Queen of the Netherlands.

The list will be updated when other royal houses announce or confirm who will be attending the funeral on Saturday.
