On Wednesday, Queen Letizia of Spain was at the San Francisco Cultural Complex in Cáceres to attend the presentation of the Princess of Girona Foundation Award 2019.
Casa Real explained that this prize “awards young social entrepreneurs with projects that encourage the integration of marginalised groups or at risk of exclusion.”
The Queen also participated in an innovation workshop alongside young people and entrepreneurs. This workshop’s aim was “to solve problems with entrepreneurial initiatives based on a disruptive methodology, on the theme: ‘Solo at home: ideas to prevent the loneliness of the elderly’.”
During this time, Queen Letizia also spoke to Xavier Verdaguer, an entrepreneur and businessman, as well as previous winners of the awards and the jury which made the decisions for this year.
Wednesday’s award was in the “social” category, and the finalists were able to present their projects. Discussions about the tenth anniversary took place with the General Director of the Princess of Girona Foundation, Mònica Margarit, speaking to the audience and explaining the educational and employability programmes. A video presentation of the 2019 Award Tour and the “Challenge” for this year’s competition were also shown.
During the ceremony, comedian Juan Carlos Ortega performed before a video on the social’s “Challenge” aired. The president of the jury then read the name of the winner, Begoña Arana Álvarez.
To conclude the ceremony, the closing remarks were given by the President of the Princess of Girona Foundation, Francisco Belil. Her Majesty spoke to the winners and other attendees before leaving the auditorium.
