The Princess of Wales has called for better integration between agencies working to support mothers and children.
As she visited Colham Manor Children’s Centre in Hillingdon, the Princess praised the range of help available to women and children there and added ”I think more places like these would be so valuable in communities.”
Kate met, mums and babies at the centre which brings together support for women from the earliest stages of pregnancy until well into their children’s young lives. Among those working at Colham Manor are midwives, social workers and specialist psychiastrists.
As she heard about the services made easily available to parents in the area, the Princess of Wales described the work as ”fantastic” before adding ”it’s not about having more services, it’s actually about being able to integrate them.”
During her visit to the centre, Kate also took part in a roundtable discussion in which she focused on the positive impact the centre’s work had had on the families she had met there. She said ”I think if you can join the dots to help mums know the sort of provision that is here, and be able to provide it in a holistic way…it does work.”
The importance of early years development and mental health are two important issues for the Princess of Wales.
Her mind was also on remembrance, just before Armistice Day. As she met three year old Akeem, he asked her about her poppy which she told him was for soldiers who had died in the war before taking it off and giving it to him to wear.
