The Prince of Wales sees mental health support for emergency services

To highlight the importance of World Mental Health Week, The Prince and Princess of Wales split up to carry out several engagements. The Prince visited the Blue Light Hub in Milton Keynes on Wednesday to chat with the workers carrying out mental health support in their jobs.

The Blue Light Hub is the base for the South Central Ambulance Service, Thames Valley Police and Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. In addition to being a physical meeting spot, it also serves as a safe space for emergency responders after seeing difficult and oftentimes traumatic situations.

Prince William sat down with a large group of emergency responders and staff to discuss the importance of caring for your mental health, especially when you are providing support during mental health crises.

Not one to shy away from difficult questions, The Prince asked about the effects these jobs can have on one’s mental health. Several police officers explained that the close-knit nature of their team allows them to keep an eye on each other.

The Prince and Princess of Wales’s foundation, the Royal Foundation, specifically works to support emergency responders and to change the perception of mental health issues.

The Princess of Wales was in Nottingham to speak with university students about the mental health issues that they are facing.
