The Prince and Princess of Wales thank those involved in the Turkey & Syria earthquake efforts

The Prince and Princess of Wales have visited Hayes Muslim Centre to thank those involved in the aid and fundraising effort following the devastating earthquakes last month in Turkey and Syria.

William and Catherine met those who had been involved in fundraising following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake on February 6 which hit southern Turkey and northwest Syria killing more than 50,000 people.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been left homeless following the disaster and are in need of help.

In response, The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) launched the Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal which is helping to provide life-saving aid to people in the hardest-hit areas

The appeal has now reached over £100 million thanks to the generosity of the UK public.

During the visit, the Prince and Princess of Wales met representatives from the Hayes Muslim Centre who have raised over £25,000 for the appeal through bucket collections and other donations after prayers.

For the visit, the Princess wore a floral headscarf designed by the Pakistani brand Élan – part of a set of headscarfs she previously wore on a tour of Pakistan in 2019.

Also during the visit, Their Royal Highnesses met representatives from DEC member charities, including aid workers who have recently returned from the crisis zone in Turkey.

William and Catherine also spoke to representatives from other communities who have made efforts towards the fundraising efforts.
