Queen Camilla forced to cancel visit to the home of horse racing after helicopter is grounded due to snowy conditions

The Queen has been forced to pull out of a visit to Newmarket in Suffolk after the weather scuppered her travel plans.

Her Majesty was due to visit Newmarket – the global headquarters of horse racing – for a series of engagements.

Queen Camilla was due to visit the British Racing School and the National Horse Racing Museum.

However, freezing temperatures and snowy conditions meant it was not possible for Her Majesty to arrive via the royal helicopter.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: “Her Majesty’s engagements at Newmarket later today have had to be postponed due to the weather impacting on transport arrangements.

“Her Majesty is of course very sorry not to be able to attend and will hope to find another date to visit in due course.”

Newmarket is best known for being the birthplace and global centre of thoroughbred horse racing.

The Suffolk town is home to almost 4,000 racehorses, with one in every three local jobs being related to the racing industry.

A number of Their Majesties’ racehorses are based in the town, including 2023 Epsom Derby hopeful, Slipofthepen.
