The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge appoint top BBC newsreader Zeinab Badawi as Director of their Royal Foundation

Respected BBC journalist Zeinab Badawi has been named as the new director of The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Ms Badawi, one of the BBC’s most senior presenters, joins eight other trustees who are responsible for the work of the Foundation in four areas; fundraising, governance, strategic direction and oversight.

Trustees include former Foreign Secretary Lord Hague and Senior British Diplomat Hannah Cockburn-Logie.

Ms Badawi has worked for the BBC for over two decades, and has presented programmes including BBC World News, HARDtalk and the BBC News Channel.

She is also Chair of the Royal African Society and has worked closely with Prince William in his capacity as Patron of the Society.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Duchess of Cambridge received Ms Badawi in audience following her appointment to the role.

The Royal Foundation was set up by Prince William and Prince Harry back in 2009 and became fully operational two years later when they were joined by the Duchess of Cambridge.

In 2018, the Duchess of Sussex became the fourth patron following her marriage to Harry.

However, in June of the following year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex parted ways with the foundation, instead pledging to establish a separate charity.

The Royal Foundation is very much a charitable and philanthropic vehicle for the Cambridges, and seeks to work in four areas which are close to them; mental health, wildlife and conservation, young people and the armed forces community.
