The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge show support with visit to Ukrainian Cultural Centre

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are continuing to show support for the people of Ukraine as they visit the Ukrainian Cultural Centre in London.

The Cambridges made a surprise visit to the Centre and heard from members of the Ukrainian community and volunteers about the services being offered, and the challenges people are continuing to face as well as the efforts being made to support Ukrainians across Europe and in the UK.

One person they spoke with was Saleh Saeed, the CEO of the Disasters Emergency Committee. She spoke on the ongoing Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal, to which The Queen recently made a “generous donation.”

The Duchess, who wore a blue sweater and Ukrainian flag pin brought homemade brownies and granola bars for those at the centre. The Duchess, alongside her husband, also helped pack donations. The couple highlighted the work being done in a series of tweets. saying: “The Ukrainian Cultural Centre in London has become one of many hubs organising donations, material aid and supporting Ukrainians living locally. The work volunteers here are doing to ensure that help gets to where it is most needed is inspiring.

“So too is the incredible generosity of the British public. The Disasters Emergency Committee has already received over £132 million in donations, and continues to raise funds to support the essential humanitarian effort.”

This is not the first time the Cambridge’s have shown support to the people of Ukraine. In the first days following the Russian invasion, a message was posted on their official social media: “In October 2020 we had the privilege to meet President Zelenskyy and the First Lady to learn of their hope and optimism for Ukraine’s future. Today we stand with the President and all of Ukraine’s people as they bravely fight for that future.”

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for their support.
