Duchess Of Cambridge’s First Portrait Is Revealed – But Is It That Good?

Today, the much anticipated portrait of the Duchess Of Cambridge was revealed, finally laying to rest all the buzz about today’s big announcement. The portrait, by Paul Emsley, features the Duchess in what seems to be simply, yet rather regal-looking full-face portrait.

Many have declared the likeness to be uncanny, though others have lambasted it for being unlike Her Royal Highness.

Though the portrait does bear some noticeable aesthetic traits of The Duchess, it is hard to see quite was the artist was getting at. Without wishing to be too critical as of course, the artist must have been aware, there are some parts of the portrait which we feel, do not highlight the Duchess quite as she is in real life.

Mr Emsley, a 65-year-old career artist has explained in an interview how he always expected critisicm of the work, regardless of what it had turned out like.

He described the Duchess Of Cambridge as an excellent subject and very co-operative. He says he worked from two short sittings (one at Kensington Palace) and many photographs. Art critics have already piped up, berating the Duchess’s first portait on the grounds it lacks character and a likeness.

Below is an image gallery with the portrait and a recent photograph of the Duchess, look for yourself.

Some people have found the portrait so unlike the Duchess, it has gone viral for all sorts of crazy and funny ‘remakes’ of this interesting portrait. Here are some we’ve found.

Twilight

Someone has also taken another twist to this portrait, adding Twilight headings as if the portrait were an addition to the Twilight saga’s film posters.
