Prince & Princess of Wales

Catherine celebrates her first birthday as the Princess of Wales

The Princess of Wales is celebrating her 41st birthday on Monday – her first as queen-in-waiting.

Her Royal Highness is marking the occasion privately in Windsor with her family.

This is her first birthday as Princess of Wales, the previous ten taking place when she was Duchess of Cambridge.

No portraits or photographs have been released to mark the occasion – these being reserved only for milestone birthdays such as her 40th in 2022.

The Princess of Wales was born on 9 January 1982 at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.

It was here where her younger sister, Pippa Matthews, was also born a couple of years later.

Catherine if the first senior royal to celebrate their birthday in the calendar year.

Just after the New Year celebrations, her birthday coincides with the end of the Christmas holidays for her children.

Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will likely be at school in Windsor today before returning to join their parents for some birthday cake.
