The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have altered their social media name making it more personal.
While their handle has remained the same, their account name now reads “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge” instead of “Kensington Palace.”
The change took place on both their Twitter and Instagram accounts.
There was no announcement of the change and fans noticed the switch this week.
The Twitter account boats 1.9 million followers while their Instagram account has 11.8 million.
Both accounts updated their photo earlier this month from a family photo of William and Kate with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis from 2018 to a more recent photo taken when the family participated in BBC’s clap for carers on The Big Night In.
The Kensington Palace account was created for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry back in January 2015. Once Harry married Meghan, the account also covered both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex until the pair separated from Kensington Palace and moved their offices to Buckingham Palace. They created their own Instagram account and were featured with other members of the Royal Family on the family’s official Twitter account after the move.
This new change comes as the Duke and Duchess mark Mental Health Awareness Week, and their initiative Heads Together – created with Prince Harry – launched the UK’s first guides on Instagram focusing on three topics “kindness,” “self-care” and “talking about how we feel.” Heads Together launched these guides in partnership with Instagram to offer guidance as the world continues to battle the COVID-19 pandemic.
