Two previously unseen images of the Queen and Prince Philip with some of their great grandchildren have been shared by the Royal Family as mourning for the Duke of Edinburgh continues.
The photos feature a snap of the couple with seven of their great grandchildren, taken by the Duchess of Cambridge in 2018. Another image shows the Queen and the Duke with William and Kate in 2015 with Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
The group photo shows the Queen and Prince Philip alongside the seven great grandchildren they had by the summer of 2018. The Queen is shown cuddling Prince Louis while Princess Charlotte sits next to her, holding her baby brother’s hand. Isla Phillips, second daughter of Peter and Autumn Phillips, is next to the Duke of Edinburgh and holds her new cousin, Lena Tindall. Mia Tindall stands to her side while the first of the Queen and Prince Philip’s great grandchildren, Savannah Phillips, is behind the pair. Prince George stands alongside the great grandmother whose throne he will one day inherit.
The photo was taken before the births of the Queen and Prince Philip’s three other great grandchildren. Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, son of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, was born the following year, in 2019. August Brooksbank, son of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, was born in February 2021 while Zara and Mike Tindall’s third child, Lucas, arrived in March this year. The Duke of Edinburgh’s eleventh great grandchild, Harry and Meghan’s daughter, is due this summer.
The second image shows the Duke of Cambridge holding the hand of Prince George who was two at the time the photo was taken. The Duchess of Cambridge holds Princess Charlotte who appears to be sharing a cheeky smile with the Queen while Prince Philip focuses on the camera. The picture was taken at Balmoral during the annual royal summer holidays there.
The photos were released on the same day that Princess Eugenie paid a moving tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh, promising him that she and the rest of the Royal Family will look after the Queen for him.
