Farewell to a dear husband – The Queen shares her favourite photo of Prince Philip as she prepares to say goodbye

The Queen has shared a favourite picture of the Duke of Edinburgh as she prepares to say a final farewell to her husband of 73 years.

The image, from her private collection, shows her and Prince Philip on one of their regular stays at Balmoral.

Taken at the beauty spot, Coyles of Muick, the photo captures the two sharing a happy moment on a sunny afternoon in 2003. It was taken by the Countess of Wessex.

One message alongside the images said ”The Queen and The Duke’s enduring marriage has seen them support each other through many years of Royal duties and raising a family together.”

On April 17th 2021, The Queen will lead mourners at The Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral. The ceremony, at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor, starts at 3pm.
