The Queen has sent a message of congratulations to Team Great Britain’s Curling teams following the women’s gold medal win and the men’s silver medal win on the final weekend of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
Posted to the Royal Family’s social media accounts, the message reads:
“I send my warmest congratulations to the Team GB Women’s Curling team on your outstanding performance in winning the Gold Medal at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, following the Silver Medal achieved by the Men’s Curling team yesterday.
“I know that your local communities and people throughout the United Kingdom will join me in sending our good wishes to you, your coaches and the friends and family who have supported you in your great success.”
The Royal Family social media accounts had previously posted congratulations to the women’s team on Saturday, noting that it was Team Great Britain’s first curling gold medal in 20 years; when the men’s team won the silver medal on Friday, the Royal Family Twitter sent a congratulations for the first medal for Team Great Britain at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
The Queen’s message was released following the breaking news Sunday morning that Her Majesty has tested positive for COVID-19 and is experiencing mild cold-like symptoms.
The palace released a statement that The Queen, who is triple-vaccinated, “expects to continue with light duties at Windsor over the coming week. She will continue to receive medical attention and will follow all appropriate guidelines.”
There is a reported outbreak of COVID-19 cases at Windsor Castle, the location of the so-called HMS Bubble that has been in place since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 to keep The Queen safe. Cases are reportedly on the rise among the staff there, and the Prince of Wales contracted the illness for the second time earlier this month.
