While The Prince and Princess of Wales are watching the 2024 Summer Olympics from their home at Windsor, they are keeping a keen eye on the Paris games and have sent their congratulations to Monday’s big winners.
Day three was a major day for Great Britain at the Olympics. Both the Equestrian Eventing Team and Tom Pidcock (mountain biking) won gold medals in their events, Britain’s first golds of the Paris Olympics.
On X, William and Catherine retweeted Team GB’s message of “God Save the King played at the Olympics for the first time since 1948 today!”. They then added their own message of support, saying ”Huge congratulations to the Equestrian Eventing Team and Tom Pidcock in the mountain biking on winning TeamGB’s first gold medals! Here’s to more success ahead!”
Queen Camilla also sent her congratulations, saying on social media that the team eventers had ”made us all incredibly proud”. Her Majesty is patron of the British Equestrian Foundation. The Queen, in a rare personal social media message, sent her congratulations to all Team GB’s medal winners.
Princess Anne is in Paris for the Olympics as an International Olympic Committee member, and she presented the British Equestrian Eventing Team with their Gold Medals after winning their competition at the Palace of Versailles.
For the first time at an Olympics since 1948, Team GB sang ‘God Save The King’ at the presentation of the golds as this is the first games of the reign of Charles III.
