The Duke of Sussex loses High Court case over UK security

The Duke of Sussex has lost a court case over his security in the UK.

The High Court rejected Prince Harry’s challenge to a decision to change his security arrangements once he stopped being a working royal.

Security is arranged by RAVEC which has responsibility delegated to it for protection of royalty and VIPs from the Home Office. It now offers the Duke security in the UK, tailored to him and the events he is attending. However, he is no longer entitled to automatic security. Prince Harry had challenged that with his lawyers saying the decision involved ‘unfairness’.

However, in his ruling, High Court judge Sir Peter Lane said there was no unlawfulness in the way the decision had been made to change the Duke’s security status. The judge also ruled that the decision was neither irrational nor marred by procedural unfairness.

Prince Harry has said he will appeal the decision.

In 2023, the Duke of Sussex lost a big to pay privately for police protection while in the UK.
