The Duchess of Cambridge will return to royal duties after her maternity leave next Tuesday when she visits Sayers Croft Forest School and Wildlife Garden at Paddington Recreation Ground in London.
Per Kensington Palace, the School and Wildlife Garden aims to engage “children and the local community in the environment, providing outdoor facilities for those who may otherwise be unable to access them.”
Kate will visit both locations and speak with the instructors and teachers “about the beneficial effect that outdoor learning and being around nature can have on children’s mental health, wellbeing and development.”
Sayers Croft has been around since 1939, educating young people about country life. According to their website, they have 56 acres “comprising of a variety of habitats including ancient and managed woodlands, meadows, ponds, streams and fields.”
Kensington Palace noted that last year, Sayers Croft Forest School welcomed over 5,500 students to their grounds.
The Wildlife Garden in London is a co-production between the Westminster City Council and Ruth Willmott Associates and includes an edible garden and a forest garden.
“Her Royal Highness will see first-hand the positive impact that the Forest School has on children’s emotional and physical wellbeing as she is shown the wildlife garden and meets children involved in exploratory and investigative outdoor activities.”
Kate has been on maternity leave since late March when she and Prince William attended events at London’s Olympic Park in support of SportsAid, and the Commonwealth Big Lunch at St. Luke’s Community Centre, only rarely stepping out for royal events after the birth of Prince Louis in April.
She attended the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in May, then attended Trooping the Colour, an RAF 100 Service at Westminster Abbey and flypast at Buckingham Palace, two Wimbledon matches, and joined her husband as he received his out-going Private Secretary in a farewell audience a few weeks ago.
