The Crown casts Pakistani star Humanyun Saeed as Diana’s companion Dr. Hasnat Khan

Another season five role of The Crown has been cast; Pakistani actor Humayun Saeed will be playing Dr. Hasnat Khan, former partner of the late Princess of Wales.

Saeed, an incredibly popular Pakistani actor, has been acting for over two decades and is known for films such as Inteha and Jawani Phir Nahi Ani. In addition to acting, he is a co-founder of the television and film production company, Six Sigma Plus.

He will be paired with Elizabeth Debicki as the Princess of Wales in the upcoming season of The Crown. Debicki is taking over the role from Emma Corrin, who was praised for her performance of the young Diana Spencer.

Saeed will be portraying Dr. Hasnat Khan. He is heart and lung surgeon who started his career in Sydney, Australia in the early 1990s. He started working in London at the Royal Brompton Hospital in 1995. For a handful of years in the mid-2000s, Khan worked in Malaysia but has since returned to working in the UK.

Dr. Khan was in a relationship with the Princess of Wales from 1995 to 1997. Diana reportedly called him the love of her life, and had wanted to marry him. Dr. Khan himself rarely spoke about the relationship, after ending it in 1997. It was reported he was reluctant to marry Diana as he did not want the constant media attention and scrutiny that would have come with it.

Dr. Khan gave a statement for a 2008 inquest into Diana’s death, stating that they had discussed marriage but it ultimately would not have worked. He also said that he believed the August 1997 car crash was an accident.

At a recent Netflix event, Imelda Staunton announced that the fifth season of The Crown will premiere in November 2022. Staunton will be taking over as Queen Elizabeth II, following Claire Foy and Olivia Colman.
