The British royals who attended Prince Philip’s memorial service and those who were missing

Over the past few days and weeks, there has been much speculation in the media about which members of The Royal Family would attend a service of thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey, held in memory of the late Prince Philip.

One great uncertainty was whether Her Majesty The Queen would be able to lead the congregation after suffering a period of ill health.

The monarch, who turns 96-years-old next month, did attend the memorial service to her husband, surrounded by her family – a stark contrast to Philip’s funeral last April where she was forced to mourn alone.

Joining Her Majesty at Westminster Abbey were many members of her family, including all four of her children.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall were seated alongside Her Majesty in the abbey.

Fresh from their tour of the Caribbean, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived at the abbey alongside their two eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Also present was the Earl and Countess of Wessex and their two children, Lady Louise Windsor and Viscount Severn.

The Princess Royal and Sir Tim Laurence were also present, as was Prince Andrew, who arrived alongside his mother.

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie sat alongside their husbands, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Jack Brooksbank.

The Queen’s cousins, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, The Duke of Kent and The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, were also in attendance.

Notable absentees included the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who cited security arrangements as the reason why they could not attend.

Princess Alexandra and the Duchess of Kent were also unable to attend.
