The Duchess of Sussex says she is not going to live her life in fear of Buckingham Palace

The Duchess of Sussex says she is not going to live her life in fear of Buckingham Palace ahead of the expected backlash from her tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

When asked if she fears the response in the coming days from the Royal Household, Meghan said: “I’m not going to live my life in fear.

“So much is said with an understanding of truth. I don’t know how they could expect us to just be silent.”

She added that she lost her father, lost her baby and nearly lost her name and identity over the past few years.

In the interview, Meghan also revealed that she contemplated suicide.

She said: “I was ashamed to say it at the time and ashamed to have to admit it to Harry. But I knew that if I didn’t say it – then I would do it. I just didn’t want to be alive anymore. That was clear and real and frightening and constant thought.”

She added that she thought her suicide “would be better for everyone” in one of her darkest moments.

The Duchess said she went to the Royal Household’s HR department for help after contemplating taking her own life, but was told she could not get help, even though they felt for her, because she was not a palace employee.

She also said that she went to one of the most senior palace personnel asking for help.

She said: “I went to one of the most senior people to get help. I was told I couldn’t because it wouldn’t be good for the institution.”

She added: “It takes so much courage to admit you need help.”

The Duchess of Sussex’s highly publicised interview with Oprah Winfrey was broadcast on Sunday evening for viewers in America.

Those in the UK will be able to watch the full interview, which has earned Oprah between $7-9m, on ITV at 8pm on Monday.

Oprah Winfrey is a close friend of the Duchess and was was among the guests at the May 2018 royal wedding.
